If you want to know more about apprenticeships this national service can help.

They have free resources and arrange bespoke support packages for schools and colleges who want to increase awareness of apprenticeships. Work Clubs

Work clubs are a friendly and free service run by local community organisations/training providers who offer support with C.V. writing, job searches, application forms, interview skills and building confidence.

Due to the current Pandemic, many of the work clubs are currently closed, but some are offering online/telephone support at the moment.  There are many work clubs across Preston, details of some can be found Here

 

 

 

Opportunities for Young People at the Harris, Preston

Young Producers are young people aged 16-25 that are into art and culture and they meet at the Harris all year round every Wednesday evening 4-6pm and produce events and workshops for other young people that they can take part in themselves. This project is led by Blaze for the Harris. For more info contact: hannah@blazeonline.org.uk

New Youth Panel at the Harris. Please see the poster below. The new Youth Panel are looking for people aged 12-18 to join. It’s not too late to join or find out more.

The Youth Panel will be an advisory group that advises the Harris senior management team about the programme and delivery of services at the Harris. The new Youth Panel will meet once every 6 weeks through the year – this includes a once quarterly official panel meeting.           Volunteering is a great way to build skills and improve a young person’s CV, whilst also enabling them to help support their local community.  Volunteers get involved with all sorts of activities so there is always something a young person can do, such as Volunteer Police Cadets or Reading Hacks.

          Young People can also sign up to the NCS One Million Hours project – For more information there is a press release here and a news story here.

          Anyone aged 15-17 can sign up to take part via the NCS website, at no cost.  The programme will be running in place of the usual NCS format and will be known as’Keep Doing Good’. The expectation is that each young person signing up pledges to give 16 hours of volunteering.

          Cardinal Newman College

          Cardinal Newman Sixth Form College offers, A-Levels, BTEC and T-Level qualifications for school leavers.  Foundation Degrees, and Teacher Training provision is also available for adult learners.

          Preston North End Community and Education Trust

          Post 16 Education – can study a Level 2 or Level 3 Diploma in Sport with the chance to represent the Trust by playing football alongside their studies and having access to a wealth of work placement opportunities within the club

          College leavers can study a foundation degree in community football coaching and development, in partnership with the University of South Wales and English Football League Trust.  This offers a number of valuable work placement opportunities in the sports industry

          Preston Vocational Centre

          14-16 Schools Individual or Group Placements – Holistic approach for tackling social exclusion by supporting young people who are disengaged with school.  Offering opportunities outside the classroom and working on pupil’s personal and social development. This programme can deliver a Pearson BTEC Level 1 Qualification in Construction (QCF).

           16-18 Pre-Apprenticeship programme

          This is a one year programme that delivers a Pearson BTEC Level 1 Diploma in Construction (QCF) This is an introduction to the world of construction that prepares young people aged 16-18 for a range of trades within the industry.

          Adults –The More Positive Together project aims to engage with and support individuals who are unemployed or economically inactive to improve their skills employment prospects.  Eligible participants receive a tailored programme of 1-to-1 mentoring, physical activity sessions, training courses, employment advice and work experience opportunities
